Bishop Kenneth H. Carter

Bishop Kenneth H. Carter is the resident Bishop of the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has provided spiritual oversight for almost 700 churches, campus ministries, and outreach initiatives across the Florida region and overseas. He is originally from Georgia and earned degrees from Columbus College, Duke Divinity School, The University of Virginia, and Princeton Theological Seminary. Prior to the Florida Conference, Carter served as a pastor for twenty-eight years in North Carolina. Carter has taken his ministry to many different settings and places worldwide. He has preached in prison chapels, synagogues, small and large congregations, to countries abroad such as Mexico, Germany, and Costa Rica. He has served as Superintendent of the Smoky Mountain District, chaired the Board of ordained Ministry, Committee on the Episcopacy, and was a delegate to five jurisdictional conferences. As the resident Bishop of the Florida Conference, Carter has worked to develop over 170 Fresh Expressions of Church, which focuses on preaching during violence and division, the POV Process for generative dialogue and courageous conversations, and the M-Lab Cohorts for design thinking and innovative ministry.
