How can faith help you rekindle the love in your relationship? February 22, 2023

Islam is a religion that emphasizes the importance of maintaining strong relationships, especially between spouses. The Quranic verse (30:21) says, “And among His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put love and mercy between your hearts.” This verse highlights the importance of love, mercy, and tranquility in a relationship, and shows that these qualities are an integral part of a successful marriage.

In today’s fast-paced world, it can be easy to lose sight of the things that really matter in a relationship. We get caught up in work, social media, and other distractions, and we forget to give our loved ones the attention they deserve. However, the teachings of Islam offer valuable guidance on how to rekindle the love in your relationship and strengthen your bond with your spouse.

Focus on communication

One of the most important aspects of any relationship is communication. In Islam, there is a great emphasis on the importance of speaking kindly and respectfully to one another. You can build trust and understanding by communicating openly and honestly with your spouse, which are essential for a healthy relationship. Allah says in the Quran that your spouse is like garments for you which means they should be close to you emotionally and mentally just as clothes are to you.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

“They are your garments and you are their garments” – (Qur’an 2:187)

Practice gratitude

Gratitude is a fundamental aspect of Islam, and it is also an important part of any relationship. By expressing gratitude to your spouse for the things they do for you, you can strengthen your bond and show them that you appreciate them. This can be as simple as saying “thank you” for making dinner or taking care of the kids.

“Allah does not look (with mercy) at a woman who is not grateful to her husband when she cannot live without him.” [As-Silsilah As-Ṣaḥīḥah].

Make time for each other

In Islam, it is encouraged to spend time with your spouse and to prioritize your relationship above other things. By setting aside time for each other, you can strengthen your connection and create lasting memories. This can be as simple as going for a walk together or enjoying a meal together.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) stated,

“Allah is pleased when a husband plays with his wife, due to this He fixes thawaab (good reward) for them or he establishes halal rizq (lawful sustenance) for them.”

(Al-Ifsah Ibn HajrHaithami)

Seek guidance from Allah

Islam teaches us to turn to Allah for guidance in all aspects of our lives, including our relationships. By praying together and seeking guidance from Allah, you can strengthen your bond and find solutions to any problems that arise in your relationship.

Practice forgiveness

Forgiveness is an essential part of any relationship, and it is also a key aspect of Islam. By forgiving your spouse for their mistakes and shortcomings, you can let go of negative feelings and create a more positive environment in your relationship.

The Prophet’s love for Ayesha was also evident in the way he dealt with her mistakes and shortcomings. In one instance, Ayesha lost her necklace while traveling with the Prophet, and the entire caravan stopped to search for it. When they finally found the necklace, the Prophet gently scolded Ayesha for causing them all the trouble, but he did so with love and kindness.

In conclusion, the teachings of Islam offer valuable guidance on how to rekindle the love in your relationship. By focusing on communication, practicing gratitude, making time for each other, seeking guidance from Allah, and practicing forgiveness, you can strengthen your bond with your spouse and create a more loving and fulfilling relationship.
