On Aug. 12, 2017, racists from across the country gathered in Charlottesville, Va., to joyfully celebrate one of their own in the White House and to protest the removal of segregation-era statues of Confederate leaders. Anti-American, anti-Semitic racists paraded through Charlottesville brandishing images of bigotry and hate, culminating in a racist white male driving his car into a crowd of people, killing Heather Heyer and wounding dozens. President Donald Trump repudiated the driver, but went on to defend the neo-Nazis... Read more

When the United States detonated a plutonium bomb over the Catholic Urakami Cathedral in Nagisaki, Japan on Aug. 9, 1945, 10,000 Christians were among the 70,000 unarmed children, women and men killed in the flash of a second. Christians killing Christians. Three days before, the U.S. dropped the first nuclear bomb on the people of Hiroshima. Six days after Nagasaki, Japan surrendered to the Allies, effectively ending the war. Americans have little of idea of the breadth of human suffering,... Read more

My sermon this week asks the question, “Is Your God too Small?” Usually, I don’t stand in the pulpit and say “You,” because I don’t want to sound like I’m pointing fingers at any one person. I usually say “we,” because most messages I share start with me, and extend to all of us. You, me, the people in the pews and anyone else with ears to hear. But this week I specifically ask each person to think about you... Read more

Richard Simmons bounded onto the stage at the lady’s show with the same energy he seemed to approach everything else. I wasn’t there to see him, but enjoyed watching him lead more than 100 people of all ages through a series of exercises as pulsing music blared. I’d grown up with my overweight mother “rolling around on the floor,” she called it, watching Richard Simmons’ daily exercise show. Richard showed ‘before’ photos of him massively overweight and then lifted his... Read more

For the good of the country, President Biden must arrest Donald Trump immediately. No longer running for re-election and susceptible to charges of partisanship, Biden must use the authority given to him on July 1, 2024, by the United States Supreme Court. Biden has the unquestionable and absolute executive authority to have Trump arrested and detained until his Jan. 6 trail is complete. Presidents have had the authority to suspend habeas corpus for more than 150 years. Since the Donald... Read more

U.S. foreign policy must change in Israel. The perpetual war of the military–industrial complex has been perfected in Gaza. While the United States supplies food to starving Palestinians it also supplies weapons to the Israeli government that is starving Palestinian people. “Israeli authorities are not only failing to facilitate the international aid effort but are actively hindering it,” said Oxfam Mideast Director Sally Abi Khalil early on in the conflict. With seemingly unlimited resources, the US can supply both sides... Read more

Christians must reject Donald Trump. A lying, unprincipled, unrepentant criminal who stole from his charity, his contractors, and creditors, Trump has no moral compass. He embodies everything evil and everything Evangelical Christians warned against for 60 years. Evangelicals told us not to support Bill Clinton because of his sexual immorality, saying repeatedly that character matters. Trump is everything immoral about Clinton, cubed, and Trump apologists continue to support him. He’s assaulted women and bragged about it. He has been fined... Read more

The “Poor People’s & Low Wage Workers’ Assembly & Moral March on Washington and to the Polls” will convene Saturday, June 29. It’s not a catchy title. The event should be the “Poor People’s March on Washington.” “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom,” was the Aug. 28, 1963 event noted for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Saturday will call on political candidates to “support a moral public policy agenda that includes living... Read more

On June 21, 1964, in Neshoba County, Mississippi, Andrew Goodman, James Chaney and Mickey Schwerner were assassinated as they worked for civil rights. They died so others may be free. Neshoba County sheriff’s deputy Cecil Price assisted in their murders. During the search for their bodies in July, investigators discovered the remains of eight African American men. Two were identified as Henry Dee and Charles Moore, college students who had been kidnapped, beaten, and murdered in May 1964. The murder... Read more

Christians have a history of being pro-choice. Christians also have a history of supporting body autonomy and the freedom to make individual choices without government involvement. The United States was settled by people seeking control of their lives without government interference. With this history in mind, here are five reasons why Christians should be pro-choice. 1) The Bible says life begins with the first breath. “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed... Read more
