As we move out of one of the most intense Gemini seasons for a while, the Sun’s move into Cancer brings a chance to relax. We can move out of the head and into the heart, out of reason and into feeling. Summer Solstice is always a powerful time of shifting astrological energies.
But this year has been an especially full-on Gemini season – did you feel it too? The shift of Jupiter from stable, rooted Taurus into busy Gemini brings a whoosh of energy, especially around learning, thinking and sharing.
As the largest planet in the solar system, we don’t need to know much astrology to understand that Jupiter is a big energy. It symbolises expansion, growth, and our search for meaning. Traditionally, Jupiter is a positive energy, symbolising good luck and prosperity. As such, it can get sugarcoated, so that whatever Jupiter is doing in our charts, we expect wonderful things to happen. But Jupiter tends to expand whatever is there – the “good” and the “bad”. Jupiter can bring a sense of overwhelm. And we can’t embrace Jupiterian growth without stepping out of our comfort zone.
Jupiter’s journey in Gemini
In Gemini, planets express themselves by seeking connection and gathering new ideas. So if the last few weeks have felt like a whirlwind of people, plans and everything happening all at once, check what area of your chart Jupiter is impacting. As I’m fond of saying, every planet is an opportunity, and Jupiter especially symbolises opportunity. The year that Jupiter is now spending in Gemini is a brilliant time for expanding your knowledge of your particular path. Reading all those books sitting on the shelves (that’s not just me, is it?). Learning the new divination skill that has always called you. Diving into some research or going back to the original sources. It’s also a great time for making connections. We learn from our peers and our elders on our paths as well and this is a great time for exchanging knowledge and experience.
Jupiter in Gemini magic
Magically, Jupiter in Gemini is a great time for word magic. Magical practices which allow you to play with words, chants and ideas. For me, the obvious Jupiter in Gemini practice is sigil magic. The tradition developed by Austin Osman Spare calls you to start by setting an intention. Then you need to choose the perfect words to express it. Finally, transforming those words into a symbol makes this all very Jupiter in Gemini.
Jupiter likes to see the whole forest, and preferably beyond the forest too. So it can feel scattered or confused amongst the many individual trees perceived by Gemini. But each of those trees is part of the forest, and Jupiter in Gemini brings an awareness not just of the detail and the bigger picture, but of the connections between them. This is a year when our spiritual traditions are expressed and developed through our intellect and our connections. Our paths bring new ideas, new connections, new communities. Where will the journey take you?
