National Give Something Away Day

Serve Day was such a blessed day. It was filled with the spirit of generosity and goodwill. Continuing in that same vein, today is National Give Something Away Day. If you could not participate in Serve Day last week today is a wonderful opportunity to get involved individually or with your church family.

What is National Give Something Away Day?

Helping others

National Give Something Away Day, is A day when you clean your, garage, house, or storage units and eliminate unused items. This is a great way to lower your carbon footprint. You can gift small things to strangers, Good Will, or The Salvation Army while making the world a better place.

The Benefits of National Give Something Away Day

  • Giving makes us feel happy.
  • Giving is good for our health. Research has linked different forms of generosity to better health, even among the sick and elderly.
  • Giving promotes cooperation and social connection. When you give, you’re more likely to get back: Your generosity will be rewarded by others down the line—sometimes by the person you gave to, sometimes by someone else.
  • Giving evokes gratitude. Whether you’re on the giving or receiving end of a gift.

Dear God,

Continue to open our hearts and minds, so that we can give with a spirit of joy, knowing that all that we give will be returned with the same care.- Amen
