Not to long ago I was asked that very question; why are you not evangelical? It was a question framed in a conversation centering around me being an active progressive voice. The person who asked the question was trying to bait me into an argument, while gaslignting me about my stance. Now, I’m just right mix of sarcastic and asshole to be willing to take the bait. If there’s one thing I learned over time is that those who claim... Read more

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything on Patheos, six moths or so – and it’s not because I haven’t tried, I have, it’s because I lost all desire to post – it’s not “writer’s block” or a loss in my desire to write in general – but if I had to put into words why I stopped, it would be “my lack of compassion for the organized church.” You see, I spent years working on my distrust with... Read more

His friend asked, “So, putting them in cages, separating them from their parents would not be a good thing?” Jesus replied, “What? What part of what I said did you have a hard time grasping?” Read more

As a follower of Jesus, I am called to love others, to accept then for who they are, to embrace the marginalized, to openly serve the poor, those in need. I am called to see no one as “illegal.” Read more

I have taken time to look over the questions the NY Times posted from Mr. Mueller. I believe this is how 45 will answer each of the questions placed before him... Read more

Over the past decades, the Evangelical Movement left behind so much of the culture; they rejected science, they rejected public education, they rejected critical thought, they rejected the environment, they rejected the marginalized, they rejected the poor, they rejected immigrants, they rejected the LGBTQ Community, they reject that Black Lives do Matter, they reject Women’s issues, they rejected so many things, it’s impossible for them to make any kind of turn around. Besides, I’m not sure they want to make a turn around. I see this meeting as a gathering seeking to dig their heals in and double down. Read more

By now, I’m pretty sure we’ve all seen the video of the two Black Men being arrested in the Philly Starbucks; if not, may I suggest coming out from that rock. The video and arrest, caused an uproar on Social Media with the video being shared by millions of people. While this event was horrid, and people need to be held in account, it opened the door to some amazing conversations about White Privilege and what White’s can do in... Read more

Are you looking for that new program you can implement in your church that will attract Millennials? After all, Millennials are weird, an enigma dancing in a mist of wonder wrapped in the cloche of invisibility; but you see them as your hope, your future, and you so want to attract them, right? You know you do. Think of it this was: How much have you spent on books looking to do just that? How many articles have you read... Read more

I get nerves when I hear our “Leaders” speak about war. Because if war is the default, or even close to a default, we truly don’t have “Leaders” we have playground bullies. War does nothing except feed the Military Monster and there has been no war in history that led to a lasting peace. Every single war simply become the fuel the next war. It’s easy for us to watch the war on TV or surf the Net and play... Read more

How the Conservative Cultural Christian sees Jesus: Soon a lot of people from the nearby villages walked around the lake to where Jesus was. When he saw them coming, he was overcome with anger seeing all those slackers not working. He tried to ignore them, but they wouldn’t leave. He knew they were there to be takers, and not contributors. Toward evening the disciples approached him. “We’re out in the country and it’s getting late. Let’s get these slackers out... Read more
