The past few weeks have been crazy for my family. One of the elders, my mom’s 83-year-old sister, became ill and things went downhill fast. I feel like I’ve been in a bubble and only popped my head out briefly for business and ministry needs. Now that we have laid one of my dear hearts to rest, I’m finding my way back to normal. Is that really a thing? I’m not sure it is, but I want to share some thoughts with you today about something deeply close to my heart. I think it will br an honor to my Aunt Yvonne.
The most important thing in life, in my opinion is finding your true purpose and identity in Christ and living a life that leaves a meaningful legacy. Well, let me correct myself a moment. The most important decision you will ever make is the decision to invite Jesus into your heart to be your savior. With that comes the opportunity to access a whole host of what Kingdom benefits. True purpose and identity are among those benefits.
In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. We often find ourselves caught up in the endless to-do lists, the demands of work, family, and everything in between. But today, I want to remind you of a truth that transcends all of this: You are created with a divine purpose.
Finding Our Identity in Christ
You often see me sharing regarding identity. In a world that constantly tries to define us by our achievements, appearances, or social status, it’s crucial to remember who we are in Christ. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 2 that we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us as brand new creatures in Christ, so that we can do the good things he planned for us a long time ago.
You are not defined by your past mistakes, your failures, or the labels others may place on you. You are a beloved child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made. When we root our identity in Christ, we find a firm foundation that cannot be shaken by the storms of life.
Living a Purposeful Life
Understanding our identity leads us to our purpose. God has a unique plan for each of us, a purpose that goes beyond our earthly pursuits. Jeremiah 29 reminds us that the Lord, plans to prosper us and not to harm us. He plans to give you and I hope and a future.
What are you passionate about? What gifts and talents has God given you? These are clues to your purpose. Your purpose may not be something grand or public; it might be in the small, everyday acts of love and kindness. Remember, even Jesus, the Son of God, washed His disciples’ feet.
Leaving a Legacy
I often speak about legacy as well. When we think about life after death, it’s natural to ponder what we will leave behind. Will our lives have made a difference? Leaving a legacy isn’t about wealth or fame; it’s about the impact we have on others. It’s the love we share, the lives we touch, and the faith we pass down to the next generation. It’s living in a way that honors God and inspires others to do the same.
Yesterday’s service for my aunt was touching in that the remarks were shared of her giving heart with us as family and friends, but also the global world through Facebook. We heard how she served the elderly and children, her two favorite groups of people, even during the pandemic. I believe she knew she was made to be a blessing in the earth. You could see the love an attention in her crafts, her plants, and even in her cooking.
I’m truly grateful that I got to spend time and gain wisdom from the Queen as a child and as adult. I will carry those jewels in my heart as I create a legacy of my own. I will light up rooms as shee did. I will lovingly correct as she did. And I will pass the torch as she did.
