This will guarantee 4 more years of Trump, unless we stop it August 8, 2024

Short and sweet: Democrats can get this one thing right and save more than our democracy. Climb aboard this train.

When Kamala Harris gave pro-Palestine protesters a scolding

Ha’aretz reports: A speech in Detroit on Wednesday by Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, was briefly interrupted by a group of pro-Palestinian hecklers, who chanted “Kamala, Kamala, you can’t hide, we won’t vote for genocide.”

Harris paused for a moment, saying she believed in democracy and the importance of every voice, and then added, “But I am speaking now.” When the chants continued, she repeated, “You know what? If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I’m speaking.”

Dear Kamala Harris,

Don’t threaten us with a Trump presidency to shut us up. It won’t work. Palestinian Americans and their allies won’t be the ones at fault if you support genocide and fail to get our vote. We won’t be to blame if you lose and Trump wins.

We have been saying this for ten months, and you know we’re right.

Sincerely, your constituency

Dear fellow Democrats,

You must know that we don’t want a Trump presidency – but a very large number of Palestinian Americans and their allies will not support Kamala Harris unless and until she does the right thing. This is not us being stubborn, single-issue, or narrow-minded voters. This is us rejecting genocide.

Don’t wonder why we are “risking democracy” by threatening to withhold our votes from Kamala Harris. Wonder instead why she is supporting genocide. Wonder instead why you haven’t joined us in rejecting genocide.

That’s what democracy is: using your vote to express what you want America to be. And we want America to simply be non-genocidal. Don’t you?

“Non-genocidal” is a low bar. Democrats as a whole are strongly non-genocidal (see this) – our representatives should reflect that. It’s not too much to ask, and all Democrats should be asking – no, demanding – an end to the war and justice for the people of Palestine.

We, allies of Palestine, are extending a hand to anyone who rejects genocide. We are offering a winning ticket. Climb aboard.

You need us for a win, and this is the way to get us.

Sincerely, Democrats who reject genocide

As I recently wrote, I have for the time being washed my hands of Christians who refuse to engage with the issue of Palestine, and for now (at least until the end of this horrific war) I will be writing about the significance of what is going on “over there” from a global and historic perspective.

I’m here for anyone who cares to have an intelligent conversation about reality, instead of living in a silo of confirmation bias.

About Kathryn Shihadah
I was raised as a conservative Christian, and was perfectly content to stay that way – until the day my stable, predictable world was rocked. A curtain was pulled back on conservative Christianity, and instead of ignoring the ugliness I saw, I confronted it. I began to ask questions I never thought I’d ask, and found answers I’d never expected. Old things began to fall away, and – behold! – the new me has come. What a gift to be a new, still-evolving creation. I found out that it’s better to look at the world through Progressive Lenses, with Grace-Colored Glasses. You can read more about the author here.
